Shocking Trade! Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns!

Free Agency in any sport always has an element of surprise. A few moves the world never see happening makes immediate impact and shifts the storylines quickly. The NFL just stumbled upon some very big news.

On March 12th, the New York Giants agreed to trade mega talented WR Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns. The Giants will receive the Browns’ first and second round pick of this year’s draft and young S Jabril Peppers. This move is unprecedented. How will this move impact everyone going forward? Let’s analyze this shocking trade.

The Browns are on the Map!

The Browns just landed arguably the most dangerous receiver in the NFL. Last season, Beckham Jr. had a solid year despite returning from injury. He finished with 77 receptions for 1,052 yards in 12 games. His presence will be a boost for QB Baker Mayfield, who just came off a fantastic rookie season. Also, things will open up for WR Jarvis Landry, who is a dangerous weapon. Landry and Beckham were teammates at LSU. The Browns surprised the league last year despite coming up short of reaching the playoffs. Now, the Browns have a chance to be one of the best teams in the NFL, especially on offense. The Browns are now the early favorites to win the AFC North Division.

The Giants’ Plans

The trade of Beckham Jr. indicates that the Giants are in rebuilding mode. No one would ever think about trading someone of Beckham Jr’s talents without a long term plan in place. The Giants are in need of a cultural change. Beckham Jr. was at odds with the organization over his lifestyle choices. The next move for the Giants will involve drafting a young QB to take the spot of Eli Manning, who could be on his way out via retirement or trade.

OBJ Forecast

Beckham Jr. seems to be in great health now. He seems to be back into his ultimate form.  But, a change of scenery always comes with adjustments. Beckham Jr. will be playing with a young Browns team who are still figuring things out. Although Mayfield is electricfying, he still has a lot of room to grow. Chemistry will be tested early on. Also, Beckham may not put up the same numbers we have witnessed pre-injury, especially early in the season. However, Beckham Jr. and the Browns both have something to prove. Beckham has to show he was not the cause of the Giants’ breakdown and he can fully return to greatness. The Browns will prove they can handle the spotlight that now burns brighter. Overall, watch out for the Browns!
